LEDES Detail

The LEDES Detail tab displays detailed information about the invoice, including the invoice total and description, client ID, and task code. The LEDES Detail  tab, which is accessed by clicking on the tab in the binder section of the LEDES98B File Import notebook, displays in tabular view as described below.

LEDES Detail Tab Field Definitions

Field

Invoice Date

The date of the invoice. Enter a date or click to select the applicable date.

Invoice #

The invoice number.

Note: Multiple invoice numbers can be billed in the same LEDES file.

Client ID

The client identification number.

Matter ID

The applicable matter number.

Note: Multiple law firm matter IDs can be billed in the same invoice.

Invoice Total

The sum of all Line Item Total values in the invoice.

Start Date

The start date for the billing period. Enter a date or click in the field to open a calendar to select the applicable date.

End Date

The end date for the billing period. Enter a date or click in the field to open a calendar to select the applicable date.

Inv. Description

A descriptive summary of work performed that is charged on this invoice during the applicable billing period (limited to 15 KB of text). Click to enter data.

Line #

The sequence number of the line item. This number must be unique for each line item in an invoice. Usually, the time entry primary key is used.

EXP/FEE/ INV_ADJ_TYPE

An identifier indicating whether the line item is an expense (" E"), a fee ("F") an invoice-level adjustment on fees ("IF"), or an invoice-level adjustment on expenses (" IE") (limited to a maximum of two characters).

Units

The number of units billed on this line item. For fee items, this number is the number of hours being billed. For expense items, this number is the number of items being expensed. For invoice-level adjustments, this field is ignored.

Adj. Amount

The numerical value of any adjustment applied to the line item. A positive value indicates a premium; a negative value indicates a discount.

Line Total

The numerical value of this line item. This total must be (LINE_ITEM_UNIT_COST * LINE_ITEM_NUMBER_OF_UNITS) + LINE_ITEM_ADJUSTMENT_AMOUNT

Line Date

The date the fees/expenses were incurred. Typically, this date is between the Billing Start Date and the Billing End Date.

Task Code

The task code (e.g., using the UTBMS code set) for the line item.

Note: Most expense items probably do not have a line item task code associated with them.

Expense Code

The expense code (e.g., using the UTBMS code set) for the expense line item.

Note: Most expense items probably do not have a line item task code associated with them.

Activity Code

The activity code (e.g., using the UTBMS code set) for the expense line item.

Note: Most expense items probably do not have a line item task code associated with them.

Timekeeper ID

A unique identifier for the timekeeper for the line entry. Typically, the identifier used here is the primary key for a timekeeper used in the firm’s financial system (e.g., an employee number, social security number, initials, etc.).

Line Description

A freeform description of the line item. Click to enter data.

Law Firm ID

An identifier uniquely identifying the sending law firm. The law firm's federal taxpayer ID must be used if the law firm has one.

Unit Cost

The standard (i.e., undiscounted) unit cost of the line item. For fees, this field would be the hourly rate. For expenses, this field would be the cost per unit. For invoice-level adjustments, this field is ignored.

Timekeeper Name

The name of a timekeeper. Names must be entered as follows: last name first, then a comma, followed by first name.

Note: This field is provided for information only and must not be used by the receiving application as a primary key for timekeeper.

TK Classification

The staff classification of a timekeeper. This field must use one of the following codes: "PT" (for partner), "AS" (for associate), " OC" (for of counsel), "LA" (for legal assistant), or " OT" (for other timekeeper).

Note: This field is provided for information only and must not be used by the receiving application as a primary key for timekeeper.

Corporate Matter ID

The client-assigned matter code.

Note: Multiple client matter IDs can be billed in the same invoice.

Corridor Invoice Status

The status (such as Processed or Rejected) of the invoice to be reported back to the Corridor Website.
