Matters Notebook Field Definitions

Below provides a description of the fields contained in the main (header) section of the Matters notebook. Note that, because this screen scrolls horizontally, the screen excerpts and field definitions have been presented in segments. To add a record, see Adding a Matter Record.

Required (Y/N)

Matter #

The ID number for the matter.

(read-only)

Name

Displays the name or a description of the matter.

Type

The matter type (e.g., General, Litigation, Contract, etc.).

Y

Subtype

The subtype associated with the matter type. For example, if General was selected as the Type, options for the subtype could be Petition Filed, Charge Filed, etc.

Stage

The current stage of the matter (e.g., appeal. discovery, pre-trial preparations and trial, etc.) .

Office

The location of the office that is handling the matter.

Status Flag

Identifies whether the matter is Open or Closed. This field is controlled by the Matter Status dropdown field. The default is Open.

Status

A user-defined dropdown field that identifies the status if a matter. When adding or updating a matter, select a value from a dropdown list.

Opened

The date that the matter was opened.

Closed

The date that the matter was closed, if applicable.

Desc

A description of the matter.

Practice Area

The legal department or practice area handling the matter. Select this value from a dropdown menu.
